My Girls are Back to School

Amelia and Aylah are official back to school.

Amelia is now a first grader and Aylah is in Pre-K3. I have said a million prayers to the Lord for my girls to have a great school year, that their teachers are great and that they both make new friends. Having Amelia in kindergarten was a learning experience for us all and although it wasn’t that bad, I am happy that Amelia has a new teacher. Her Kindergarten teacher did not seem to have control of her students so I was eager for her to move on.

On the first day of school, Amelia’s nerves got the best of her and she did not want to ride the bus. I offered to take her to school since she had a huge list of school supplies to bring and it was too much for her to carry. I also wanted to personally introduce myself to her teacher.

Upon arriving to the school, I walked her down to her classroom and eagerly shook her teacher’s hand. I sat Amelia at her desk, wished her well and was off, fighting back the tears. My baby is growing up y’all. The teacher seems really nice. She greeted us with a warm smile and showed Amelia to her cubby where she can put her belongings. I handed her the bag full of supplies I had purchased for Amelia and proceeded to tell me that Amelia is one of her three girls in the class (great, a class full of boys lol). Her teacher appeared to be motivating and engaging for learning. I got a good first impression.

To prep my little ones for school, I did all their supply shopping at Staples. They had great deals on supplies and I found everything on her list right there - a one stop shop is always my favorite.

For school clothes, I shopped between Primark and Childrens Place. Both had amazing back to school deals as well. Amelia and I kept arguing (yes, I was arguing with a six year old) because all she wanted to buy were flats, skirts, dresses, etc. She is such a girly girl and although I absolutely love this side of her, she needs to wear sneakers and jeans too. She gets so dirty at school. I usually tend to save her more dressier looking clothes for the weekend. Plus the weather is getting colder hence her dressing a little more weather appropriate.

Since Aylah is only three. I did all her shopping without her. After having gotten her jeans, sneakers and t-shirts, I learned that she only likes wearing leggings and sneakers without laces. I am unsure when this request started but the first day of school was a struggle. She fought with me about wearing jeans. So off I went to return the jeans and stack up on leggings. I went to Old Navy who had such a vast variety of leggings in different colors and patterns. Their prices are usually pretty reasonable so I was happy. Only thing that concerns me now is, again, the cold months.

As far as her footwear, I had to run to target and buy her a couple velcro and slip on sneakers so that, going forward, we can make it out the door. Next time, I will absolutely bring Aylah with me as I pick out anything for her because although she is only three, she knows exactly what she wants and likes.
