Finding Your Purpose

I remember my 20s. That decade was probably the most fun I’ve ever had! Despite all the crazy, fun things I did in my 20s, I remember struggling with finding my purpose in life. I had absolutely no idea what it was that fulfilled me and I did not see any talents or skills in myself.

Journaling, writing and blogging happened as I approached 30. The more I did it, the more fulfillment I found in it. What’s strange is that I always liked to write. All my life I kept journals. I collected fancy pens and pretty journals just for the fun of it. For some strange reason though, I never thought or even considered making writing a career. You see, growing up Latina, you were either a doctor, a lawyer, an architect, or a business owner; there was no in between. Writing was definitely not something you did for a living.

I was introduced to blogging by some Sephora friends I made when working there. I had no idea what it was, but it sounded super fun. I asked around and launched this little website in January of 2015. I had no idea what I was even doing at the time but it was definitely something I wanted to learn more about. I have learned so much since the day I first launched a blog post. While I still may not have found the niche to my brand quite yet, but as time goes on, I get better and things become a little more clearer.

Finding your purpose is something that requires a little patience and a lot of dedication. Here are some tips to get your mind going in the right direction and solve this purpose crisis once and for all!

READ

I remember when I was growing up, my parents offered me $10 for each book I read during summer vacations. $10 ya’ll! As a kid, back in my day, that was more than enough. Yet, I did not pick up ONE book. Since starting my brand, all I want to do is read. I want to read different books; two, three, even four books at a time. I just do not have the time to do so. My girls consume a lot of my time and it is difficult to sit and read an entire book with them around. So my first advice to you is, read! If you are into fitness, read books on calories, or muscles. Whatever it is that you are into, education yourself on the topic.

SHOW GRATITUDE

This was something I definitely had to learn the hard way. If you are subscribed to my newsletter, you read the content I wrote on gratitude.  Being thankful for what you have allows the universe to continue to bless you with the things that you want. You want to send off positive vibes and show appreciation for what you have. One great book I recommend is Gabrielle Bernstein, “The Universe Has Your Back”. Fostering a sense of gratitude will give you an instant boost of purpose.

FIND/BUILD A COMMUNITY

Build a community of people that want to hear what you have to say. Engage on social media and with people in general. Listen to what people appreciate about you. Pay attention to what people come to you for. These couple things will definitely lead you in the right direction of your purpose. Also, ask yourself, what types of things are you willing to do for free? What things make you lose track of time when engaged in them? These questions may help you find your skills and/talents.

TAKE ACTION

Plain and simple, take action. Follow your curiosity and do things that spark your interest. Do not make excuses or hold it off because things aren’t perfect. It will never be perfect at the beginning. Everyone started somewhere. Stop over-thinking and take action. Celebrate the small wins and give yourself a break when thing may not go as you envisioned it. Remember that all your errors will result in a lesson learned.

The formula for purpose is simple. PASSION + DAILY ACTION = A PURPOSEFUL LIFE
